Assisting IPTV Operators

With a considerable amount of well-founded skepticism, a handful of progressive IPTV operators began using Airsonics' wireless video bridges in 2009 to connect IP Set Top Boxes (STBs) as a last resort when they couldn't run cable. To their surprise, the performance and reliability of the Airsonics video bridges rivaled that of cabling and usage grew.

These early adopters experienced dramatically accelerated IPTV deployments as installers could connect STBs wirelessly for a typical home in 20 minutes versus a minimum 3 hours of fishing cable throughout the house, often in very undesirable places. Two years before AT&T introduced their wireless receiver, subscribers of IPTV operators using AirSonics delighted in discovering their TVs were no longer tethered to predefined locations and that they could even watch TV outside! AirSonics video bridges also empowered IPTV providers to deploy and realize revenue in homes and MDUs previously off limits due to cabling restrictions.

Word of mouth spread and AirSonics usage by IPTV and Skitter TV operators flourished. Operators who had been utilizing contractors to run cable quickly realized the dramatic expense reduction benefits generated by AirSonics’ GXT 5G Gigabit Wi-Fi Extender and InstaFi 11ac Enabler. As the profitability-challenged IPTV business case benefited from significantly lower installation costs, the real financial gem surfaced when the video bridges were redeployed. Whereas installers would repeat the process again and expend another 3 - 4 hours cabling up a new home, they merely reused the Airsonics video bridges expensed in the first home much to their CFO's delight.

7 years later, 100+ IPTV providers in North America have deployed over 400,000 Airsonics video bridges in 100,000+ homes.
